  • Basic Drawing for Kids- Summer 2024

    This class teaches basic fundamentals early and can set your child on a path to developing their talent faster. We teach students to see and draw the basic shapes within a subject, then build it from the inside out. Learn how to shadow to create depth, and create more dynamic pictures with perspective drawing. Subject matters range from cartoons to wildlife, even the still-lifes are fun! Parents and caregivers can stay and draw for free, learn something together! Ages 6-11. Instructor: Keith McGuire

  • Baton Twirling Camp

    Experience the unique sport of baton twirling that combines athleticism and artistry. New twirlers entering grades kindergarten and up will learn basic skills, marching and body work. Experienced twirlers will expand upon their skills while national level twirlers prepare for the return to national competition. There will be a camp theme that will incorporate fun activities during the week. The camp will end with a performance for friends and family.   • Beginner/Intermediate Adult Watercolor Class - Summer 2024

    This ongoing class is for beginning and intermediate painters. We will learn about materials, color mixing, values and layering. If you’ve had some experience with watercolors, we explore a variety of wet and dry brush techniques through demonstrations and hands-on teaching. Subject matter includes landscapes, wildlife, flowers, etc. Material list is provided below.   • Boys Salt City Lacrosse Camp

    Join Saline High School Lacrosse Coach and Alumni Evan Aeschliman for the inaugural Salt City Boys Lax Camp at Hornet Stadium.Players will receive coaching from the high school coaching staff, alumni now competing at the collegiate level, current high school players, and local youth coaches. Enrollment is open to K-8 players and those interested in learning about lacrosse. First time players are welcomed! Daily activities will include stickwork, speed and agility training, skills and drills, and team games designed to reinforce concepts taught throughout camp. We look forward to providing players an opportunity to develop and experience the sport!     Saline Area Schools transition to high school bridge program will help students to feel more confident upon entering the high school. Students will go over support staff, admin and where to reach these people in the school and how. We will review the school handbook, rules and general changes in expectations from MS to HS. Students will know where to go for the nurse, technology concerns or to get a work permit form. Students will look into extra curriculars, and sports available as well as general organizational strategies and what SHS offers in terms of tutoring. We hope that you will consider this two day program to assist in your student's transition and help them enter high school and feel successful.

    Brixology Camp sets the foundation for our next generation of makers! Children learn about different types of engineering and then team up to construct a different engineering-themed project using LEGO® bricks. We’ll learn about aerospace engineering while assembling a space station. We’ll explore mechanical engineering as we build boats and vehicles. That’s not all! From carnival rides to drawing machines, mechanical animals to truss bridges, your future engineer will build upon their creativity to solve real-world design challenges, while developing their problem-solving and team-building skills.     This one-week, full day workshop will cover general techniques useful for musical theater performance, including the aspects of voice, movement, and acting necessary in effectively performing songs and creating characters in musicals.Students will prepare a series of scenes, songs, and production numbers from popular Broadway musicals, based on an original common theme and storyline, culminating in a final performance for family and friends on Friday, June 21, at 7:00 P.M. in the HS Auditorium.Students should bring snacks, a sack lunch, and a water bottle to class every day and wear clothes and shoes that they can move comfortably in!     This summer chess camp is open to all levels. Beginners will learn piece movement, castling, check and checkmate, stalemate and more! Registration for our age 5 through 1st grade Summer Camp will officially close at 4:00 PM on Wednesday 4/10, no further contract requests for those age groups will be accepted. Registration for the 2024-2025 school year opens at noon on Sunday 5/12 for currently registered families, and at noon on Sunday 5/19 for new families. Offering school year and summer programming for children ages 5-12. Children must be 5 years of age on their first day of care. Children must be no older than 12 years of age at the time of registration. School year programming includes before and after school*, and 1/2 day* after school programs.     In this recreation program, students will engage in authentic scenarios that teach and enrich the essential social and emotional skills needed to cope with everyday challenges and experience academic, professional, and social success. Using a variety of engaging and hands-on activities and positive reinforcement, students will practice self-awareness, self-control, and interpersonal skills. In addition to explicit social and emotional instruction, students will make crafts, play games, and visit local parks. Community-based instruction will be provided in the Saline area.   • Credit-Based Summer School - Physical Education

    Physical Education is an integral part of the total education process, with the emphasis on building a physically, emotionally, mentally and socially fit community and nation. The mind and body represent a unity in the study. The physical education department offers the basic program to our students. It is extensive in scope with a variety of activities. The program offers team sports including tennis/pickle ball, soccer, flag football, volleyball, badminton, basketball and basic swimming. These activities will vary according to availability of facilities and the weather. Students will be introduced to individual activities and cardiovascular development through the use of heart rate monitors. At the conclusion of this course, the freshman student-athlete will understand, and have the ability to control their heart rate within a positive target heart rate goal. Attendance Policy Students are required to attend all 20 days of the section they are enrolled in. No exceptions. Students who have previously planned vacations or camps that will interfere with the summer school schedule SHOULD NOT ENROLL IN SUMMER SCHOOL Any attendance violation will result in being dropped from the course with no refund and loss of credit. Classes CANNOT be audited Tuition Full payment for Summer School is due at the time of registration. If enrollment does not meet the required minimum, you will receive a full refund and the class will be cancelled. All checks are made payable to “Saline Area Schools.” Credit cards are accepted online. Dropped courses must occur before the 4th day of class (a $75.00 cancellation fee will be retained). Any dropped course on or after the 5th day of class, there will be NO REFUND provided and an “E” grade issued to the student.     If you have a child who is interested in what it takes to build their own business, this class is for them! Taught by Mompreneur business owner, PR and marketing professional, author and business coach, Gaynor Meilke, this is a unique program that incorporates the fun of dolls (bringing a doll is optional) with business skill-building for entrepreneurial-minded kids. Over the course of 5 weeks, we will create a business plan for a business (for your child or their doll) using materials based on the book, The Market Ownership Method, by Gaynor Meilke, while having fun with related crafts, peer interaction, and snack breaks! Whether a child’s interest is in a baking or babysitting business or a STEM-related field we will explore these and other career options and at the end of the last class we will celebrate!
