Girls LacrosseYouth RecreationCome join the fastest growing sport in the US. Register for SMS Girls Lacrosse this spring and see what all the buzz is about! No experience is necessary to play this fun, fast paced sport. Practices will begin March 22nd and are held Mon-Fri 5:30-7:30pm at Weber-Blaess field. Game schedule TBD. Players must bring a lacrosse stick, eye goggles, and a mouth guard. Uniforms and a practice pinnie are provided. Registration is limited and spots fill quickly! Horseback RidingYouth RecreationChildren ages 5 to 17 and ranging in skill level from beginner to advanced are welcome to attend these lessons. Ability will be evaluated on the first day. You will learn all about horses including how to saddle, brush and groom the horse as well as how to clean its hoofs. You will also learn how to ride in a basic balance position and to have fun while being safe and educated at the same time. Participants should wear comfortable clothing appropriate for weather conditions including shoes or boots with heels, a shirt with sleeves and stretch or stirrup by pants. Also, please bring a riding helmet if you have one; otherwise, a bike helmet will work. One makeup session will be permitted during each session. This is an introduction to horseback riding. The class is one hour long, and we will work on basic horse care and stable management will be stressed. This includes hoof care tack used, grooming tools, horse colors and markings. The first class is an introduction with the group, letting children know what we will be doing each visit. We will have one or two horses to groom and get ready to ride. Depending on the group, we will limit time riding with the rest working on basic horse care. All will tradeoff riding.Winter 2021

Indoor TrackYouth RecreationThe Indoor Track Club provides students with the opportunity to improve speed, agility, and endurance for general fitness as well as receive instruction in sprinting, hurdling, and distance running. Registration can be made at any time, however will not be prorated to reflect classes missed. To reduce the number of kids in the gym at a time, we will likely do two shifts per practice. Kick Start KarateYouth RecreationThe Kick Start Karate Program offers traditional martial arts training to children ages 6 through 12 and emphasizes self-defense, physical fitness, conflict resolution, team work and anti-kidnapping techniques. This program is designed specifically for children and teaches prevention first. It does not promote active aggressiveness, but teaches children to respect themselves, others and the skills they learn. There is no better program for kids! Wear loose fitting clothes.
