  • Junior Chess Lions Summer Camp

    This summer chess camp is open to all levels.Beginners will learn piece movement, castling, check and checkmate, stalemate and more!     Think and act like NASA Innovators during this hands-on program inspired by NASA’s current missions. The primary focus will include the ARTEMIS mission to the moon during which NASA will land the first woman and next man on the moon’s surface by 2024, using innovative technologies to explore more of the lunar surface than ever before. Kids will love to design their mission patches and build their own rovers as they put themselves in the shoes of an astronaut. The sky is no longer the limit in this hands-on camp!   • Mad Science NASA Academy for Future Space Explorers

    Mad Science has teamed up with NASA in a quest for exploration! We’ll take a voyage of discovery into the atmosphere and beyond as we explore planets, moons, and other space phenomena in our solar system. Things will heat up as we examine the sun and other stars and discover the difficulties of space travel! Kids will get a firsthand experience of the challenges of living in space as they try to assemble a satellite while training to be an astronaut. For added fun, we’ll learn about the various technologies that make space exploration possible while bouncing lasers around the room! Kids will love to build their own Mad Science Skyblazer Rocket and participate in a real “NASA” style rocket launch. Campers will receive many cool NASA take homes! Instructor: Mad Science of Detroit

We’ll start with the basics: From decoding messages to metal detectors and night vision, campers have the opportunity to check out spy tech equipment and take home lots of gadgets! Step into the shoes of a detective as you uncover the science involved in evidence gathering and analysis! Figure out the science of forensics in a hands-on look at crime scenes!   • Mad Science: The Science of Slime!

    We’ll set up the Mad Science Lab for Jr. Scientists to mix, brew and mush up several batches of slime!! That’s right; this one day camp is all about creating gooey globs of fun, better known as slime. With the help of Mad Scientist instructors, Jr. Scientists will get to whip up several different slime recipes and spend the day learning about polymers. Glitter slime, glow in the dark slime, orb slime, the possibilities are endless as kids experiment at our Slime Bar and create three different kinds of polymers. Jr. Scientists will also test their slime creations in a series of fun games and activities known as the Slime Olympics! Instructor: Mad Science of Detroit

    Welcome to the Mad Science Lab – wherever you are! Campers will spend the day learning all the tricks of the trade with a real Mad Scientist! They will learn about physical and chemical reactions that they might encounter in their daily lives. Jr. Scientists will learn to swirl, pour, mix, and shake like a true scientist! They will see reactions in action as they conduct their own experiments with labware, chemistry, and states of matter. The fun and learning will extend beyond the Mad Science Lab when they take home their own Graduated Gear and other items! Instructor: Mad Science of Detroit
  • Safety Town

    Safety Town is a safety education program geared for the pre-kindergarten child. Topics include pedestrian safety, police officers, bicycle safety, riding a school bus, safety at home and play, fire safety, stranger danger, seat belts and water safety. Traffic safety is emphasized daily as children ride through our miniature “city” complete with buildings, crossing guards, and street signs. Children who complete Safety Town should be better prepared to care for themselves as a pedestrian or bus rider during their first year of school, as well as becoming more safety conscious at home and play. Safety Town has been specially designed for your child’s needs - it is fun and educational. First graders may attend if they haven’t before or if they need a refresher. Parent Orientation: Powerpoint presentations will be sent to the email provided one week before the first day of Safety Town. Adults and students should view them prior to the first day of the session. These presentations provide information regarding drop off, pick up and the daily activities that will occur each day of Safety Town. It is the parent’s responsibility to bring their child to Safety Town and to pick them up promptly at dismissal. Parents who will have someone else picking up the child must designate that at the time of enrollment.

    Come join SAS on a Saline Community Fair Field Trip! Saline Community Fair, Saline Area Schools and Saline Community Education are teaming up to host a field trip to the fair! Friday, August 30th $80 (includes food, unlimited ride wristbands that are good for the entire day and night, and SAS bus transportation to and from the fair!) WHO: 2nd-5th Graders 10:30AM - will leave from Liberty School to the fair via school bus transportation 3PM - will arrive back to Liberty School from the fair via school bus transportation Participants will be lead through a fun day at the fair with Community Education's Child Care staff! What to bring - small backpack/bag with water bottle, jacket (if needed), sunscreen, snacks, etc. *Students will get lunch at the fair!
  • The Fairy Door Tour

    Ann Arbor and Saline have hundreds of fairy doors and we’ll do a virtual tour of them then make our own to take home, along with some other fairy spotting gear including bags, a fairy spotting kit, and a fairy spotting journal to keep track of the fairy magic we encounter. We’ll play with our new fairy friends, enjoy a magical fairy snack and enjoy some fairy fun games. Instructor: Gaynor Meilke

Kids will love to study bone fragments, pottery shards, amber deposits, and fossils! Camp is filled with cool take homes such as amber keychains, world coins, plaster hand cast and more!
