This class is a 4 week summer intense for exiting 1st graders interested in reviewing previously taught phonics skills. 1st grade is a monumental year for student reading achievement due to the breadth of phonics skills taught. A current SAS 1st grade teacher will be leading small groups in reviewing skills like: short vowels, blends/digraphs, silent e, word endings and more. They will also practice using reading strategies to help decode these words, along with incorporating it into their writing. The goal is to reinforce phonics skills, prevent summer slide, and to build reading confidence. There will be lessons, games, and activities all used to enhance reading and writing associated with these phonics skills. Teacher: Madeline Treber
